The bill requires the State Department of Education to collaborate with the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene in order to incorporate the provisions of the Maryland Adolescent Survey and the Youth Tobacco Survey into the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance system survey.

Every year in Pennsylvania, one out of five high school students fails to graduate. Of the 153,523 ninth graders who started high school in 2000-01, those not reaching graduation four years later (2003-04) totaled 33,349 or 21.7 percent - more than one in five students.

On September 21, the Forum brought together several national experts to address key questions around the connections between the high school reform and after-school movements.

It is the intent of the general assembly that school districts work with contractors to increase over time the nutritional value of foods offered to students in school vending machines and to phase in higher nutritional standards as vendor contracts are renewed.

If the department takes possession of a child under Chapter 262 during the school year, the department shall ensure that the child returns to school not later than the third school day after the date an order is rendered providing for possession of the child by the department, unless the child has a physical or mental condition of a temporary and remediable nature that makes the child's attenda
