Forum Focus: High School: The Next Frontier for After-School Advocates?

As the issue of older youth and out-of-school time is gaining new attention across the country in the context of the after-school movement, it is important to remember that there are many programs for teens that operate in the out-of-school hours. This issue of Forum Focus documents a range of promising developments for capitalizing on the after-school momentum to increase learning opportunities for older teens.<!--break--> In Research Update, we summarize findings from two recent studies of programs serving high school youth and offer an age-appropriate framework for describing features of quality out-of-school program settings. In On the Ground, we describe how TASC is engaging teenagers after school in New York City. Voices From the Fields features candid conversations with B.J. Walker, chief of human infrastructure for the City of Chicago, and Nancy Wachs, executive director of After School Matters.
